This week at Santa’s Whispering Pines Campground we were able to speak to and share some time with one of the deer in our wild herd. She had been cast off by her doe within days and was finding her way in the world alone. She watched us work for over an hour, resting in the shade. Kevin was able to come with 4 feet of her comfortably and get some amazing photos. Later that night she was over in the Santa’s Village parking lot and while driving past Kevin stopped and spoke to her. As he was speaking to her she started to walk towards the the truck and was moving her head and ears to listen better. What an experience!
On Friday we learned why she had been sent on her own…Mama had a brand new fawn!! Congratulations Mama!!
We caught sight of the doe and her days old fawn on Friday loping down a roadway at the back of the campground. Kevin, who is a lifelong, avid outdoors man, estimated that the fawn was around 2-3 days old. It was still wobbly legged but moved along well. We weren’t able to get a photo of the new addition yet, but we will be on the lookout. Here are the photos of our young friend who likes to watch us work and engages in conversations with Kevin.
