A fun-filled theme weekend in Muskoka
Muskoka Steamships / Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre
Saturday, August 8th – 11am to 12:30pm
Sunday, August 9th – 9:30am to 11:30am
Santa never has enough time to visit on Christmas Eve, but he’d love to see everyone this holiday season. The question is, wait all the way until Christmas to see Santa?
SantaFest at Santa’s Village is only a week away! Come see the man in the big red suit starting next Saturday, December 20th, until the 22nd from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm and celebrate with Santa before old Saint Nick is off on his worldwide trip!
Everyone knows that Santa loves relaxing at his summer home from June through August. He’s been known to float down the Muskoka River on his boat, or take a load off at the beach, but living at the North Pole for the rest of the year means that when the weather turns cold Santa also knows how to throw a memorable winter bash! Just like in the summer time, Santa loves to bring families together to make magical memories, and filling up the winter break with great activities for all the good little boys and girls is the best way to do it. Bring the family to visit Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the elves and go on a horse drawn sleigh ride, visit the petting farm, decorate a gingerbread cookie, roast marshmallows, and of course hand in any last minute additions to your Christmas list!
When you’ve had your fill of fun and reindeer games stop by Mrs. Claus’ Bake Shop to warm up with a tasty treat or nice hot coffee. There’s always something hot and yummy. You can also check out the gift shop for some great last-minute ideas for stocking-stuffers, or to pick up your 2015 Seasons Passes for our 60th anniversary season. It’s going to be a year you won’t want to miss!
Even after Christmas comes and goes, the fun won’t have to end. All Santa needs is maybe, just one day off. Want a chance to say thank you in person? He’ll be back December 27th for another great day of activities! It may be pretty hectic delivering all those presents all around the world, but when the Christmas craziness is over and done with there’s nowhere Santa would rather relax than at the Village with all his friends. This will be his last visit until the summer, so you don’t want to miss it!
For more information about all the great things happening this year at SantaFest, be sure to visit www.santasvillage.ca/santafest-2014/ Admission is only $8 and children 3 and under get in free! Come make magical memories of the time everyone saw Santa for Christmas.
Christmas is a busy time for Santa, and lots of work has to go into preparing for the big night. All the toys have to be made perfectly for all the boys and girls. The reindeer have to be shoed and brushed prepared for the journey. The big red suit has to be cleaned and made ready to keep Santa warm on his long cold flight. With all the craziness of last minute preparations, sometimes the big man needs a little hand in checking his list twice. That’s where the elf on the shelf comes in!
We certainly have… many of our guests have been talking to Santa about their special elf that stays with them at their own home leading up to Christmas. Kids love to tell Santa what they named their elf and what mischief it has gotten up to around the house.
For those who don’t know, an Elf on the Shelf is a children’s picture book that comes with a little elf. A family decides on a name for their elf to give it his or her magical powers.
As the story goes, the elf leaves every night once everyone has gone to bed, heading to the North Pole to report back to Santa. The elf then returns each morning and appears in a new part of the house (sometimes getting up to mischief).
There are a few more rules with the elf… but you will have to read the story. The one thing you do need to know is that the elf usually arrives at a family’s home in December!
The Elf on the Shelf has quickly become a Christmas Tradition in many homes and schools around the world.

Camping vacations are the best! Whether it’s taking a couple weeks off work, or just getting away from home for a few days, there truly is no more magical a time of year than when the family gets together for a holiday. It’s also the perfect time to sit back, put your feet up, and relax while spending quality time together. And what better way to do this than to leave the stresses and distractions of the daily grind behind, and take in some of Canada’s natural beauty? The only difficult choice is deciding where to go, but if you’re fortunate enough to live in Ontario, the answer is usually not very far.
Ontario is a very popular vacation destination, particularly when it comes to camping, and there is absolutely no substitute for an Ontario summer. Unmatched scenery, beautiful trails and lakes, and all the natural wonder of the great Canadian shield. There are tons of great places to set up camp, especially if you know where to look. One of the most relaxing, scenic, and accessible destinations is even within a few hours drive from the GTA: beautiful Muskoka! Where else can you find that stress free feeling of being in cottage country? It’s the perfect place to get away, without actually having to go away, and after a day or two in Ontario’s backyard you’ll be refreshed, revitalized, and ready to take on the real world again!
We have the perfect midweek staycation package available at Santa’s Whispering Pines Campground for anyone who wants a temporary change of scenery. Book a one night stay between Monday and Friday and for just $200 you get fun, food, and a day away from it all!
Your staycation package includes a one night stay at a natural, unserviced site (perfect for classic tent camping, or upgrade to a hydro site for only $15.00) as well as both dinner and breakfast! Each booking comes with a $10 food voucher that can be used at Santa’s Village, and you’ll also get breakfast with Santa when you wake up the next day! Breakfast starts at 9:30 every morning over at Santa’s Village; just follow Santa over from the campground when he comes to say hello! You can then spend the rest of the day exploring Santa’s magical summer retreat with a Family pass for 4 to Santa’s Village. It’s the perfect way to make magical summer memories with the whole family!
Whether you need a short getaway, or you just want to mix some excitement into your week, this is the perfect deal to get the family together, away from the daily grind, and having fun. Come experience Santa’s magic for yourself! Visit http://santasvillage.ca/camping/ or call (705) 645-5682 for more information, and to book your staycation!
There’s never a shortage of things to do in Muskoka. As the crown jewel of cottage country, the Muskoka region features some of the best lakes, trails, and attractions around, not to mention all the local events and festivals that make that northbound drive a recurring theme for so many. Sometimes the most difficult part of the trip is sifting through the options and deciding just what to do. Fortunately, we’ve created our Beyond portal to share with you a couple suggestions about where to eat, where to sleep, and where to play.
One of the best ways to get familiar with the area and experience first-hand the natural beauty of Muskoka is to take a tour on the Lady Muskoka Cruise ship. A veritable floating paradise, the 104 foot long, 300 passenger capacity cruise ship is the largest in the area and features full bar and food services, as well as a play area for kids. Take in the sights and the friendly atmosphere as you’re greeted by the locals while the boat tours some of the most picturesque spots along the Muskoka River and Lake Muskoka. They have cruises leaving at noon almost every day this summer, and also offer group rates, as well as private charters, so you can tailor your cruise to what suits you best. There truly is no better way to explore Muskoka.
After you’ve worked up an appetite out on the water you’ve got to come back ashore and check out the Griffin Gastropub. Hidden just off Manitoba street, down the quaint and picturesque Chancery lane, the Griffin is easily one of the area’s best kept secrets. Well, it was, but when you do things as well as they do, people start to take notice. In fact, they’ve recently been included as one of Canada’s top 100 bars by an Enroute Magazine poll. And if you’ve ever been, you know why. Their menu features an assortment of classic pub favourites, but with a gourmet spin, like the Bison Burger – available with aged cheddar and seared apple – which is a burger lover’s dream. The mere thought of it has me drooling all over the keyboard. They also have hands-down the best beer menu in town, featuring a delightful assortment of local craft beers as well as their own brew. Finally, there’s live music all the time, with a house band that is just as worth seeing as any of the 150+ musical acts they book in house and at festivals throughout the year. All this conveniently wrapped into a cozy little pub with a friendly, conversational atmosphere.
Once you’ve been fed and watered look no further than Muskoka Zip Lines & Aerial Park, the brand new aerial park beside Santa’s Village, for a truly unique Muskoka experience. Tree trekking is becoming a very popular activity for people of all ages, and Ontario has some of the best forests and landscapes around. If you’ve never tried trekking you’re missing out. It’s a great team atmosphere, a little bit of a challenge, and a whole lot out of the ordinary. If there was ever going to be an X-games version of walking, this would be it. There are 4 unique levels, each one taking you higher above the forest floor than the last, and every kind of obstacle you can imagine along the way. It’ll take two or three hours for you to conquer all the wobbly bridges, money lines, balance beams, and Tarzan ropes, but you’ll leave with an undeniable feeling of having accomplished something, and sitting back down on land to rest will be well deserved.
Best of all, thanks to the Beyond program, there are great savings to be had at all three of these locations. Guests of Santa’s Village can show their proof of payment from the gatehouse and receive free admission for any children accompanying a paying adult aboard the Lady Muskoka. On top of that, any food purchase at the Griffin will come with a special coupon to save $20 off a regular priced climb at Muskoka Zip Lines & Aerial Park. Book your climb before August 2nd and we’ll also throw in tickets to Session Muskoka Craft Beer Festival, presented by the Griffin Gastropub at Annie Williams Park on August 2nd.
Get out and explore Muskoka. Check out http://santasvillage.ca/beyond-local/ to find more great local places to eat, shop, or stay.
